Parasomnia
Parasomnia is a type of sleep disorder that involves unusual and undesirable physical events or experiences that occur while sleeping. If you have parasomnia, you might do things during sleep that you're unaware of like walking, talking, shouting or eating.
These activities are often benign and only troublesome to the bed partner.
However, in some cases, parasomnia can lead people to engage in destructive or potentially dangerous behaviors during the night without awareness, such as overeating, driving, leaving their homes, and more violent behaviors, such as lashing out and hitting.
Parasomnias can include:
- Bruxism
- Bedwetting
- Sleep talking
- Sleep walking
- Eating while asleep
- Night terrors
